Serpentinite is a lime-yellow mineral with a waxy lustre, occasionally marked by subtle natural patterns. It forms when ultramafic rock (igneous rock mainly found at the ocean floor), is pushed into the Earth’s mantle by tectonic activity. Sea water then mixes with the Magnesium, and as the deposit is subjected to huge pressures, Serpentine minerals are formed. Measuring approximately 2–3cm, these pieces are sold individually and chosen at random.
